POPPLETON retained the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League division one crown after winning at Wetherby Castlegarth.

Top-scorers Robbie Greenall and Claire Morrell led the way, with James Silson again unbeaten partnered by Belinda Turnbull.

Dunnington will probably be runners-up after they beat relegated Rufforth with Trevor Loten and Rebecca Hill top-scoring.

The second relegation place will go down to the final match with Fulford currently occupying it after losing to Dunnington for whom Brad Swainston and Karen Mitchell won 33 games. Wigginton could yet finish second after they beat York with Ben Walker and Eleanor Bradshaw winning two rubbers 12-0.

The top two in division two, York and David Lloyd, face a title decider.

Richard Cranidge and Emma Waters won 29 games as York beat relegation-threatened Heworth, while David Mackenzie James and Sarah Smelik were unbeaten in David Lloyd's win at Dunnington.

Sutton upon Derwent look certain to finish third after Matt Ward and Vicky Bland fronted victory over Bubwith, who are in the relegation scrap.

Wigginton need one more point from two games to seal the division three trophy after beating a good Poppleton side, Phil Langley and Sue Espiner with 29 games.

Any two from four could go down.

Rowntree Park lost to promoted York and Bishopthorpe fell in a well-matched contest at Wilberfoss. Mick Miller and Ellie Page were then Bishopthorpe's top scorers as they beat Riccall.

David Lloyd remaining fixtures in division four will decide which two teams go up.

York went third after beating Copmanthorpe and relegated Poppleton, when Chris Hughes and Jackie Eccles took 30 games.

Pat Herriott and Pauline Craddock were again Fulford's top scorers as they saw off Wetherby Castlegarth to stay top.

Tollerton stay second on games difference after beating Cliffe thanks to unbeaten Josh Hunt and Ed Hope.

In division five, James Hunt and Jess Cawood were again unbeaten but their Wilberfoss side lost to David Lloyd to end their promotion hopes.

David Philips and Niamh Wragg top-scored as second-placed Stillington ended Alne's chances. Stillington now await Rufforth's final matches to see if they will be promoted.

Wigginton's third team secured the division six title when holding on for a draw at Appleton Roebuck after top scorers Dom Wright and Chantel Lancaster finished with a 10-2.

Fulford moved closer to promotion when pipping New Earswick, who will now be relegated. Sutton on Derwent, who beat Heworth, led by Damian Galloway and Tanya Ward's 28 games, could leapfrog Fulford with their match in hand.

Five teams still have promotion hopes in division seven, with the top three all having the same points, headed by Sutton upon Derwent and Copmanthorpe. Bubwith have an outside chance after winning at Stillington and Cliffe are just one point behind after their tough match at Rufforth.

Division eight champions Wigginton overwhelmed relegation-threatened Wilberfoss, led by Connor Firth and Sandra Burley. David Lloyd will also go up.

The second relegation spot is wide open after Tollerton beat Bishopthorpe to leave five teams in the reckoning.

David Lloyd took the division nine title after beating Appleton Roebuck in their penultimate match, Lee Brayford and Katy Fowler again unbeaten, this time with 28 games.

Fulford will also go up after winning their final match against Bishopthorpe, Mark Cook and Carolyn Taylor again top scorers with 26.

New Earswick sealed the division 10 crown in their maiden season with victory at Sutton upon Derwent led by Keith Pearson and Theresa Roberts-Hardy's 32 games and Brian Hudson and Jean White's 29.
