BRADFORD CITY AA

OUR forecast of no rain last weekend was sufficient to open the heavens a few times over the following days. Water levels briefly responded in the rivers as the rain ran off the hard ground, but have now fallen back to levels only slightly elevated from where they started. On the River Aire, the additional water has not yet flushed out the river completely but the Ranunculus has died back.

The rivers now have a nice flow and are cool to the feel, but we suspect that it will be some time before they fish well again. We are hopeful not to have to ask members again to refrain from fishing the Gargrave stretch during the rest of the trout season, but little rain is forecast and it is likely that rivers will be very low again in the near future.

Please will members note that the wooden gate into the field below Inghey Bridge on the Aire has been locked by the farmer to deter dog walkers. We hope to agree to replace the gate shortly and put a club padlock on it. In the meantime, please do not try to climb or step over the gate but enter the beat via the upstream access or the gate on the Skipton road. There is no parking at this gate, however.

Our Oakworth Ponds have been well frequented by both new and regular anglers, with mixed coarse fish and carp to 9lb coming to the net. Successful methods included corn on method, showing that the roach, bream and small chub we stocked in January are growing quickly. No reports from pleasure anglers at Shipton, but at Staveley Trevor Hannam managed an 8lb carp and lots of silver fish, and the match last weekend gave up some good weights on chopped worm, casters and maggots over groundbait, under small floats.

Fred Bainbridge spent Yorkshire Day roaming the Aire, with some browns and grayling taking nymphs, with all of the fish safely returned on this catch-and-release fishery. No reports from the Swale, Wharfe or Ure, though anglers are starting to catch fish below Asenby island now that we have a bit of extra water.

The agenda and proposals for our annual meeting on Wednesday, September 26 have gone out this week to all members for whom we have an e-mail address. It is cost prohibitive to post agendas to other members, but annual meeting details can also be seen on our website at www.bradfordcity.co.uk, on our Facebook page and, by request, to Jim Munden. See the yearbook for e-mail and telephone contacts.

BRADFORD No 1 AA

The first significant rainfall in months fell over the weekend, and the rivers got a much-needed flush through. Unfortunately for the anglers fishing the Calder League, though, the heavy rain on Sunday morning meant that the river rose two feet in the opening hour or so of the match and became heavily coloured, resulting in some poor catches as the grayling were unwilling to feed. Nevertheless, the match produced some very good roach catches. Result: 1 Craig Turbitt (Calder 8) 21lb 7oz (roach on stick float and maggot), 2 Dennis White (Drennan Barnsley) 20lb 14oz, 3 Eric Wright (Mirfield) 15lb 9oz, 4 Tim Peters (Punky's 8) 12lb 5oz, 5 Arthur Benstead (Drennan Barnsley) 12lb 3oz. Teams: 1 Mirfield 44½, 2 Punky's 8 42½, 3 Drennan Barnsley 39, 4 Bradford No 1 34, 5- Calder 8, Willy Worms 24, 7 Reserves 9.

The A Phillips Trophy members' match will take place this Sunday on the River Aire at Beal. Tickets are available from Simon on 01274-571175 and the draw will take place at the Jenny Wren at 9.15am, although it will be open beforehand for breakfasts.

The rise in levels have seen some very good catches from the River Nidd at Cowthorpe, with chub, barbel and even bream to over 4lb being caught. As the level drops back to normal, there should be good catches of grayling and trout from the River Calder at Gravel Pits and Lillands, as there have been for most of the season so far, as well as good roach and dace catches from the Corn Mill and Cooper Bridge stretches.

LEEDS ASA

The seal, which has devastated fish stocks at Topcliffe, has evaded capture once again. Stretches of the River Ouse are producing mixed nets of fish, and six-year-old Charlie Horner, on his first trip, had a decent-sized bream and a perch. Result of the match at Ulleskelf: 1 D Hare 36lb 7oz, 2 S Holt 26lb 5oz, 3 G Bass 16lb 14oz, 4 T Hewson 11lb 15oz. Result of the Tuesday match at Kippax Park: 1 P Carter 116lb 12oz, 2 A Rymer 81lb 12oz, 3 P Cartwright 69lb 9oz. Result of the Wednesday match at Moor Monkton Pools: 1 T Bainbridge 180lb 6oz, 2 A Bull 157lb 3oz, 3 S Jeffreys 92lb 8oz. Result of last Saturday's match at Kippax Park: 1 N Rymer 151lb 12oz, 2 A Broomhead 125lb 13oz, 3 P Cromie 124lb, 4 A Barker 118lb 8oz. Result of the Sunday match at Moor Monkton Pools (match pool): 1 L Smith 144lb 7oz, 2 L Myers 140lb 15oz, 3 A Warren 76lb 6oz.

BINGLEY AC

No reports have come in on rivers yet after last week's rain but they should be worth trying. There will be a work party at Sunnydale on Wednesday, August 15 (2pm-early evening) and it continues to fish well with good nets of roach, perch and the odd bream to 4lb.

CENTRAL AC

Result of match at The Oaks (Cedar Lake) on Sunday: 1 A Simpson 61lb 4oz, 2 R Creek 52lb 4oz, 3 P Holt 44lb 14oz, 4 GS Cooper 40lb 2oz. Our next match is at McCallums Bank End Farm Fishery on Sunday, August 12, meet at venue 8am, fishing 9am-3pm.
