NORTH Yorkshire's non-League sides' preparations for the upcoming season are well underway.

Selby Town have two friendlies to go before the Northern Counties East League division one kicks off on Saturday, August 4, while Evo-Stik League east newcomers Pickering Town have three remaining and fellow east division outfit Tadcaster Albion have four to go before Saturday, August 18 when their league gets going.

The Robins have the best success rate so far, beating both Pickering (4-2) and Tadcaster (1-0) on home soil as well as Goole (1-0), in the Eric Lawton Cup, Maltby Main (2-0) and Otley Town (3-1).

The only defeat they have suffered is a 3-1 home loss to Gainsborough Trinity, who were relegated from the National League North last season.

Gary Collier netted one each in the Goole, Taddy and Maltby games while Sam Cable and Liam Flanagan both scored against the Pikes. The latter got the consolation against Gainsborough and the first against Otley, while Cable got the opener against the Main and the second against Otley. The third was an own goal.

New signing Carl Stewart and talisman Joe Dale also got on the scoresheet against the Pikes.

Manager Christian Fox has been busy during the off-season, bringing in Stewart, keeper Peter Lawrie, teenage Turks & Caicos national Ras Diamond, former York City midfielder Josh Berry, ex-Worsbrough Bridge Athletic captain Joshua Dacre, Will Ramsey and former Luton Town centre-back Alasan Ann.

Selby's next game is Saturday, July 28 (3pm) against Pontefract Collieries (H).

Tadcaster began their pre-season with a 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield United's Uner-23s, with former Brewer Harry Sheppeard in the Blades' starting line-up.

New signing Alex Metcalfe opened the scoring in the next game against Knaresborough, and winger Billy Whitehouse put away an 89th-minute penalty to round off a 2-0 win.

The Brewers then fell 1-0 at home to National League North outfit Boston United before new left-back Jack Waters opened the scoring in a 2-1 home defeat to Barton Town Old Boys.

Ellis Barkworth opened his account for the club in the 1-0 win at Taddy's i2i Stadium against Farsley Celtic following the Selby loss.

The Brewers have brought in striker Joe Lumsden from Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Taddy's next games are: Saturday, July 28 (3pm) v Rossington Main (A); Tuesday, July 31 (7.30pm) v Leeds United U23s (H); Saturday, August 4 (3pm) v South Shields (H); Saturday, August 11 (3pm) v North Ferriby United (A).

Pickering Town followed up their defeat to Selby with a 2-0 loss against Hull City Under-23s and a 4-1 defeat at Knaresborough Town, in which Eddie Birch netted.

They next beat the Scarborough & District Representative XI 4-1 before seeing off Garforth Town 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from George Bissett and a triallist.

Manager Paul Marshall is hoping to squeeze in another pre-season friendly before the Pikes' FA Cup extra preliminary round fixture against Bishop Auckland.

Pickering's next confirmed games are: Saturday, July 28 (3pm) v Bridlington Town (A); Thursday, August 9 (7.30pm) v Scarborough Athletic (H).
