ROWNTREE completed a York Veterans Bowls cup double at West Park.

The club's 'A' team lifted the Coronation Cup after beating Dunnington 'C' 20-9 while the 'B' string saw off Dringhouses 'A' 22-9 in the Maddison Cup.

In the Coronation Cup, the Rowntree 'A' rink of Brian Hardcastle, Barry Johnson, Frank Williams and Bernard Drury led 6-0 after three ends, with the help of a four at the second.

The Dunnington 'C' rink of Phil Raines, David Badby, Bob Barrett and John Taylor had slightly the better of the next six and pulled the score back to 9-5 at the halfway stage.

However, Rowntree ran away with the second half to win 20-9.

In the Maddison Cup, the Rowntree 'B' team of David Harrison, Ron Worling, Paul Murray and Bill Waldie took control after dropping a single at the first end to lead 9-2 after six.

They shared the next five ends with Dringhouses' Malcolm Redpath, Wally Darbyshire, Phill Turnbull and Malcolm Thompson to lead 11-6.

Trees then picked up in the latter half, taking 11 shots at the next five ends on the way to a comfortable victory.

Association chairman Colin Ellis presented the trophies.
