FULFORD Golf Club has been chosen by England Golf as the host venue for the 78th edition of the Carris Trophy.

The championship is open to male under-18 amateur golfers of all nationalities and is played over 72 holes of stroke play over four days.

This year's event will be held between Tuesday, July 24 and Friday, July 27.

After the second day, the leading 60 competitors play a further 18 holes on the Thursday with the final round being held on the Friday.

The 144-strong field represents the cream of international amateur boys' golf, with a highest handicap this year being 0.5.

Previous winners of this prestigious event include major champions Justin Rose and Sandy Lyle, current tour players Tom Lewis, Graeme Storm and Callum Shinkwin and Fulford’s own Jonathan Plaxton.

Fulford is considered one of Yorkshire’s finest courses and is frequently asked to host national events, recently hosting the 2013 European Ladies Team Championship and the R&A’s inaugural Girls U16 Open this year, which Fulford will host for a further two years.

The championship is free to attend, all are welcome and no booking is required. Guests are welcome to use the clubhouse facilities at their leisure while the halfway house will be open throughout the week.
