YORKSHIRE fought back superbly with the ball and in the field to secure a crucial come from behind Vitality Blast win over Durham by 10 runs at Emirates Riverside as they successfully defended a 158 target.

The Vikings, inspired by Tim Bresnan, have now won two from three North Group games, with this their first win on the road since the 2016 quarter-final success over Glamorgan.

Yorkshire posted 157-6 thanks to some late fireworks from sixth-wicket pair Bresnan and Jonny Tattersall, who shared 51 in 4.3 overs.

Bresnan hit 28 not out off 15 balls and Tattersall 36 off 26, and it was a competitive total on a sticky surface.

Durham were then 77-0 in the eleventh over of their chase, only to stumble as Matthew Fisher, Azeem Rafiq and Bresnan impressed.

Bresnan was Yorkshire’s star, finishing with 2-19 from four overs, including defending 15 off the last as Durham finished on 147-6.

He took two wickets in two balls in the 18th over, which started with Durham needing 29, and left them 129-5. And they could not recover.

The Vikings face North Group leaders Worcestershire at New Road on Sunday.

Yorkshire’s innings, including a fluent 38 from top-scorer Harry Brook, was a strange one.

They were tied down early on by reaching 12-1 after three overs before Brook, who timed the ball better than anyone until the fireworks from Bresnan and Tattersall, helped take 34 off the next three.

Yorkshire were then tied down against pace off the ball from Paul Collingwood (3-27 from four overs) and South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir.

They only scored two boundaries from the start of the seventh over to the end of the 15th and slipped to 104-5 early in the 16th.

Collingwood’s medium pacers removed Adam Lyth caught behind down leg aiming a hook at a short ball, Brook caught at long-off and Gary Ballance caught and bowled and bowled as he miscued a ramp shot.

Tahir had Jack Leaning stumped off a wide on the way to 1-21 from four.

But then Bresnan and Tattersall changed the complexion of the innings.

Both hit three fours and a six, but Bresnan hit the lion’s share of 29 off the last two overs.

The Jets then flew out of the blocks in reply as captain and overseas Tom Latham hit five fours in the first three overs, which went for 30, as new ball pair Fisher and Jack Brooks erred.

The hosts reached 58-0 after eight overs, needing 100 more, and reached halfway at 74-0.

Fisher returned well and broke through at the start of the eleventh when Latham holed out to deep mid-wicket for 42, ending a 77-run stand with Graham Clark (39).

Fisher struck again to get Clark caught at long-on at the end of the 13th before Gary Ballance ran Liam Trevaskis out in the next (102-3) as Yorkshire fought back.

And when Bresnan struck twice in two balls in the 18th, getting Will Smith caught and bowled and Collingwood caught at short fine-leg (129-5), they were killer blows.

Yorkshire’s clash at New Road starts at 1pm and will be televised on Sky. The Rapids have won their first four North Group games. Fisher is unavailable due to England Lions duty.
