YORK City crashed to a 7-1 defeat in their second pre-season friendly at home to Barnsley.
Against a visiting side that included 19 players from last season’s Championship relegation campaign, City opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Jon Parkin’s chipped cross into the six-yard box was chested in by Jake Wright.
But three visitors’ goals in the space of four minutes turned the game on its head.
First, on 36 minutes, Kieffer Moore spun Dan Parslow before his shot was parried by Bartlett straight to Tom Bradshaw, who tapped in.
The Tykes added a second on the counter-attack with Bradshaw’s right-wing cross turned in first-time by Brad Potts and a third when Bartlett could only claw Ryan Hedges’ chip back to Moore, who netted from a matter of inches.
Liam Lindsey and Mamdou Thiam hit the bar either side of half-time before Victor Adeboyejo’s 20-yard drive beat Bartlett at his near post just before the hour.
A blatant handball by Hamza Bencherif at the far post from Thiam’s corner then saw George Moncur convert the resulting penalty.
Thiam went on to hit an upright, before curling in from the edge of the box a minute later and Dylan Mottley-Henry made it 7-1 after being found all alone in the home box.
