VETERAN striker Jon Parkin will line up against hometown club Barnsley tomorrow night when York City play their first home friendly of pre-season (7pm).

Barnsley-born Parkin, City's leading marksman last season with 25 goals, will also be presented with The Press Player of the Year award before the game.

Now 36, the much-travelled hitman started his career with the Tykes and made his first-team debut aged 17 in 1998.

He first joined City in 2002 and stayed for two years before spells with Macclesfield Town, Hull City, Stoke City, Preston North End, Cardiff City, Doncaster Rovers, Huddersfield Town, Scunthorpe United, Fleetwood Town, Forest Green Rovers and Newport County.

Parkin returned to City in November 2016 and signed a new deal with the club last season.

Barnsley, relegated from the Championship last season, appointed German coach Daniel Stendel in the summer and his side opened their pre-season programme with a 2-0 win against Gainsborough Trinity last weekend.

City manager Martin Gray will be without defender Tom Allan, who suffered a minor knee injury in Saturday's 2-1 victory at Shildon AFC.

New signings Jordan Burrow, Jake Wright, Macaulay Langstaff, Russ Penn and Wes York are all likely to be involved but full-back Kallum Griffith is doubtful with an ankle injury.

Turnstile admission is £8 adults and £4 concessions.
