TADCASTER Albion notched their first win of pre-season with a 2-0 victory over North Yorkshire rivals Knaresborough Town.

Alex Metcalfe struck into the roof of the net to give the Evo-Stik League division one east outfit the lead after 36 minutes and winger Billy Whitehouse added gloss to the scoreline with an 87th-minute penalty.

The triumph followed Friday night's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United's Under-23s, where Clark Greaves pounced on a loose ball in the box in the 50th minute for the only goal of the match at the i2i Stadium.

Selby Town, of Northern Counties East League division one, began their pre-season with a lively 4-2 win over Pickering Town.

The Pikes, newly promoted to Evo-Stik League east, took an early lead through Eddie Birch, making no mistake when one-on-one with keeper Peter Lawrie, but former Pike Carl Stewart levelled before half-time with a superb lob.

After the break, Liam Flanagan put the Robins ahead with a penalty he won himself and Joe Dale extended the lead. Birch bagged a spot kick for himself but Selby had the last word with Sam Cable netting from a scramble.

Knaresborough, promoted to the NCEL premier division, had two teams in action on Saturday. One lost to Taddy but the other beat Northallerton Town 6-1.

Stephen Bromley opened the scoring against the Northern League division two side, and extended their lead just after the half-hour mark.

The hosts pulled one back from distance but Ben Dickens restored Town's two-goal lead a minute later before James Perkins and substitute Steve Walker added. Dickens rounded off his brace with 15 minutes remaining.

Pickering Town's game against Scarborough Athletic has been moved to Tuesday, August 7 because of the Pikes' FA Cup extra preliminary round tie with Bishop Auckland.
