HIGH-FLIERS Heworth ARLC were denied the chance to join Queensbury at the top of the Yorkshire Men's League first division after their scheduled fixture at Oulton 'A' was postponed.

The game was called off at late notice on Saturday morning as the Raiders were unable to raise a side. Queensbury also weren't in action.

It is yet to be confirmed if Heworth will be handed a walkover or if the match will be rearranged.

York Acorn 'A' climbed off the bottom of the table on Friday night after bagging their second victory in succession - despite travelling with only the bare minimum of 13 players.

With the Blue and Golds without a game in the National Conference League on Saturday, the second string were aided by first-team trio Ryan Price on his return from injury, Lewis Lord and Matt Chilton, who helped to make up the numbers.

They went on to win 34-16 at Skirlaugh Bulls - a second victory after opening the campaign with seven straight defeats.

The try-scorers were impressive debutant Ben Tenge, a rugby union player with Malton & Norton who played in the back line, 16-year-old Josh Parker, with his first of the year, Luke Swales, man-of-the-match Lord, and Brad Winter with a brace. Parker kicked five conversions. Hooker Toby Woodall also stood out.

'A' team coach Josh Mortimer said: "It was the best the Acorn have played all year - probably first team or second team.

"We gave away only two or three penalties and had a 95 per cent completion in the second half. I was really proud of the lads."

Meanwhile, Upton have resigned from the league with all their premier division results expunged. New Earswick All Blacks, with one win from six outings, are left still at the bottom of the table but are joined on two points by Lindley Swifts with Bramley Buffaloes and Siddal Academy only two points ahead. All Blacks had no game at the weekend.

In the lower tiers, York Lokomotive, Sherburn Bears, Heworth 'A' and All Blacks 'A' all had the weekend off too.
