YORK City are on their worst win-less away run in a year following a 2-1 defeat at Kidderminster Harriers.

Despite a stoppage-time Sean Newton strike, Dan Bradley’s second-half brace for play-off rivals Kiddy means the Minstermen have now only taken one point from a possible 12 on the road in four matches following their 5-3 triumph at Telford two months ago.

Since then, City have lost to Stockport and Curzon Ashton, either side of a 1-1 draw at Tamworth, prior to the trip to Aggborough, where they have now only won once in their last dozen visits.

A fast opening to the game had earlier seen play swing from end to end, with Jon Parkin volleying the night’s first chance out of the ground from an Aidan Connolly cross to the far post.

Alex Pattison, meanwhile, drove into the box after robbing James McQuilkin of possession before drilling into the sidenetting.

For the hosts, Emmanuel Sounpe shot weakly past the near post after breaking down the left, but Louis Almond tested Brandon Hall with a fierce low drive after Pattison’s ball through the right channel.

Bartlett, meanwhile, touched a 25-yard Declan Weeks strike on to his left-hand upright and Bradley missed the target from a similar distance.

At the other end, David Ferguson called Hall into action from a narrow angle following Connor Brown’s cross from the right.

After Bartlett gathered an edge-of-the-box effort from Bradley, McQuilkin sidefooted over from 15 yards with Dan Parslow having found himself under pressure and outnumbered at the back.

Another Bradley drive cleared the bar from range, before Almond’s 20-yard shot bounced narrowly wide and Parkin aimed an effort straight at Hall from a similar position.

Harriers went on to finish the half strongest, but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal, with Sonupe (twice), Lee Vaughan and Weeks all off target.

McQulkin did have the ball in the net but was correctly flagged offside and the home midfielder also saw another attempt turned behind by Bartlett.

The visitors switched to a back four after the break and looked to be containing the Harriers better until Newton lost the ball in his own half.

Play then broke down the right and Vaughan swung in an excellent right-wing cross to the far post that saw Bradley outjump Brown and head in on 57 minutes.

Newton went on to fire well over just past the hour from 20 yards, before pouncing on a poor Hall goal kick to play Parkin clear through, only for the veteran striker to drag his shot wide.

A promising chance for sub Alex Kempster also went begging when Pattison got in his way as he set his sights on goal.

But City fell further behind on 72 minutes when they were caught outnumbered on the counter attack.

After sprinting down the right, Sonupe squared to Weeks who, in turn, nudged the ball towards Bradley, so the home striker did not have to break stride before beating Bartlett from ten yards.

In response, Hamza Bencherif headed a high Bartlett free kick into Hall’s arms and Newton’s ten-yard drive was kept out low to his left by the England C international.

At the death, a left-wing effort from Ferguson was pushed away at his near post by Hall, who aimed another poor clearance at Newton, only for the City captain to shoot wide with a hurried effort.

Newton did get on the scoresheet, though, in the third minute of stoppage time, beating Hall with a low and firm first-time 15-yard finish after Kempster's deflected cross from the left byline had fallen to him.
