CITY of York Ladies I sit fifth in North Hockey League after twice coming from behind to win 3-2 at Morpeth.

The North Easterners scored early on, with the rest of the first half continuing to be a struggle for York - the visitors managing to repel several strong counter attacks but being unsuccessful at the other end.

However, a rousing half-time team talk saw York return with renewed determination, Hannah Smith quickly equalising with a strong shot from the top of the 'D'.

Morpeth scored again from a slick short corner but York soon levelled again with Ali Couttie likewise notching from a set-piece.

York then piled on the pressure with shots from Bel Howells-Lee, Smith and Lily Rowntree, while at the other end Cattie Whitworth showed excellent defensive organisation in goal and made several fantastic saves.

York's defence and midfield worked relentlessly to outrun the opposition and their efforts were rewarded when a great ball from midfield led to a winner from Rowntree.

City of York II remain in relegation danger in Yorkshire League division one after a 4-2 loss at high-riders Ben Rhydding III.

The hosts took an early lead, with York equalising via a Vicky Skilton penalty flick.

Ben Rhydding went ahead again by half-time but City stepped up the pressure with several strong attacks - Abby Collins wowing both teams with an impressive reverse stick shot from the baseline to level matters again.

However, Ben Rhydding pressed thereafter and scored twice more.

City of York III drew 1-1 at cross-city rivals Acomb in division three.

The Tangerines took a first-half lead but York responded with constant attacking play in the second period and the pressure finally told late on as a beautiful ball into the 'D' from defender Jess Hall saw Liz Armitage equalise.

City of York IV lost 3-1 to Colne Valley to stay in relegation danger in division two - although recent displays suggest they can escape.

They went ahead through Anna Sambrook inside two minutes and kept pressing throughout the first half.

However, they were punished for not finding the net again as Colne got back into the game and scored two quick goals early in the second half.

York rallied but to no avail and Colne wrapped up their win late on. York's player of the match was Maisy Lawrence for her attacking play.

City of York V lost 3-2 at Thirsk III in division four north.

York started strongly but Thirsk took control and scored from two well-executed short corners. Rebecca Copperthwaite pulled one back before half-time York and levelled through Lily Dowdy after the break. However, Thirsk got the winner.

York's player of the match was Nicola Winter.

Frustrated City of York VI lost 3-0 to Leeds Adel and 2-1 to fellow strugglers Cleckheaton, but both performances merited more and improvements are clear.

City of York VII crashed 7-1 at Leeds University VI in division five north. Jess Forman got York's sole goal while newcomer Lucy Hall starred.

But they hit back 24 hours later with a fine 2-1 win over Ben Rhydding V.

A brilliant hit-in from Alex Newton saw Harriet Lyon give them a deserved lead and, although Rhydding equalised with a sneaky finish, York's will power shone through as they kept the pressure on, Lyon setting up player-of-the-match Newton to get the winner.
