HAMZA Bencherif has signed a new one-year deal at York City.

The 29-year-old defender has become the fourth out-of-contract player from last season’s squad to agree 2017/18 terms, following Jon Parkin, Sam Muggleton and Adriano Moke.

Bencherif made 21 appearances following his January arrival from Wrexham, where he also worked under City chief Gary Mills.

On his decision, the former Halifax centre back said: “It feels really good to get things sorted. It’s something we’ve all been thinking and talking about as a squad since the end of last season, keeping this group of players together as much as possible.”
