CURACAO international Derwin Martina has been released by York City after just one reserve outing.

Martina played 82 minutes during this afternoon’s 2-1 Central League home defeat to Hartlepool and the decision to part company with the 22-year-old full back was made immediately afterwards.

The former Ajax academy defender signed for City last week after an on-off transfer saga due to international clearance complications.

He was then an unnamed substitute for Saturday’s 3-1 first-team victory over Eastleigh but has left North Yorkshire with boss Gary Mills declining to elaborate on the reasons behind his departure.

Martina was at fault for Hartlepool’s winning goal in the second-string fixture at Bootham Crescent and, by his own admission, found the going tough, saying afterwards: “It was really hard for me.

“I had to take in a lot of information – too much new information. In Holland, we always play 4-3-3 and I am a right back, but we played 5-2-3 and it was a new position for me, so I had to do new things with and without the ball.”

Martina will now be looking for a new club, having also been on trial at Championship outfit Barnsley this term.

Mills, meanwhile, revealed that Aidan Connolly should be fit enough to make the trip to Sutton United on Saturday after he was replaced 55 minutes into the second-string fixture having taken a bang to his knee.

It is also expected that Yan Klukowski will be back in contention with the calf problem that has seen him miss the last two games having now eased and Jon Parkin will feature despite previous concerns about his knee joins on 3G pitches.

“I think Jon will probably be OK and he wants to play,” Mills revealed.

Advance tickets, meanwhile, are still on sale for City’s FA Trophy semi-final against Lincoln with reduced prices of £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and under-fives free for both legs.

The first leg takes place at Bootham Crescent next Tuesday with the tie then decided at Sincil Bank on Saturday, March 18.

Supporters can also pay at the turnstiles for both matches.
