YORK City have signed former Manchester United junior Ben Barber from Premier League club Stoke City.

The left-back, who spent much of this last season in non-League football, has become the Minstermen's third signing of the week after penning a two-year contract following his departure from the Potters.

He joins Alex Whittle and Shaun Rooney in Jackie McNamara’s newly assembled squad, after the pair signed deals at Bootham Crescent yesterday.

Having graduated through the Manchester United Academy and playing regularly for the Red Devils’ under-18s team, Barber departed Old Trafford at the end of his scholarship in 2014 before signing with fellow top-flight club Stoke City.

Over the course of the next two years, the 20-year-old featured for the Potters’ U21s side before gaining his first taste of senior football with Evo-Stik League division one north outfit Droylsden earlier this season.

It was with the Bloods that Barber scored his first professional goal in late November before he departed the Butchers Arms and joined National League side Chester for the final few weeks of the 2015/16 season.
