DUNNINGTON ran out 6-0 winners over last year’s league champions, Riccall United, to lift the York Minster Engineering Football League's Senior Cup.

The league drew to a close with its three cup competitions decided on consecutive days, Dunnington taking the showpiece trophy after bagging five goals in the last 20 minutes following the dismissal of Riccall's Will Ramsay.

They then dedicated their victory to long-serving chairman Duncan Griffiths, who is stepping down.

The game began fairly tight, the first real chance coming in the 17th minute when Riccall keeper Theo Cieply saved well from Will Pepper's close-range volley.

On the half-hour, Dunnington went ahead, Jimmy Willmoth racing onto a through ball to slot home from eight yards.

As the game opened up, there were further chances before the break with Dunnington’s Robert Chipps striking a post from the edge of the area before Alan Jackson headed a Will Ramsay cross just wide at the other end.

Ramsay’s dismissal in the 57th minute effectively ended Riccall's challenge as Dunnington quickly assumed full command.

Willmoth nearly scored in the 63rd minute before Cieply saved well from Martin Day.

But in the 70th minute, Day made little mistake from three yards, before substitute Ben Small broke away to tee up Chipps for the third.

With Riccall now broken, Dunnington became rampant late on, Chipps volleying home with aplomb in the 90th minute before Small took on two players and produced a clinical finish to make it 5-0.

Sam Wildwood completed the scoring in the fourth minute of stoppage time, running from his own half to lob the luckless Riccall stopper from 20 yards.

The Junior Cup was won by Hamilton Panthers on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Strensall.

The game didn’t take long to get started, with Strensall keeper Dan Smith saving a penalty in the second minute.

There were further chances but both keepers matched the strikers’ early attempts.

As the half drew to a close, Panthers began to get on top, Tommy Medd going close before Matthew Walters stuck, turning in a low cross on the volley from three yards.

Strensall went close to equalising just before the break, Joe Davison seeing his effort crawl just wide.

The second half saw few notable efforts until Smith produced a fine save from Joe Mason in the 60th minute.

This served as a wake-up call for Strensall, who responded with several good efforts before a Liam Wingfield free-kick from 35 yards out sailed over Joshua Jackson and into the net to level the scores.

Four minutes later, Panthers were back in front, Connor Larner's bullet header from a corner giving Smith no chance.

Danny Lamb then ran from deep to slide a cross home and equalise again with ten minutes left.

Strensall had a final chance to win it but Davison’s strike hit the top of the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.

In the shoot-out, Smith saved a second penalty on the night, but both he and a team-mate missed the target allowing Panthers to claim the trophy with a 6-5 triumph.

In the Reserve Cup final, Lee Bunce opened the scoring for Huntington Rovers against Harrison Signs with a magnificent lob.

There were no further goals until the second period, when a flowing move finished with Ash Hill firing home from close range.

Huntington went 3-0 ahead when Kieran Flanagan headed home before his brother Liam completed the scoring with an impressive solo run and finish.

The York Minster Engineering League have thanked York RI, Wigginton Grasshoppers and Wilberfoss FC for the use of their facilities for the finals.

The league’s annual general meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 1, at 7.30pm, at Wigginton Recreation Hall. Secretaries are asked to arrive in good time to allow for registration.
