SHOUTS of "you're not fit to wear the shirt" rang out from a loyal travelling army of York City fans after their side capitulated 4-0 at promotion-chasing Oxford.

A limp display by the Minstermen saw goals from home quartet Jordan Bowery, Cheyenne Dunkley, Danny Hylton and Kemar Roofe end a run of five defeats and one draw from the last six Kassam Stadium clashes for the U's.

Jackie McNamara's men, meanwhile, suffered their fourth straight defeat and extended their run without an away win to a 16th match.

Big improvements must now be implemented if City, who managed just two off-target shots all night, are to avoid a return to non-League football.

Bowery signalled a second-minute warning when he drove narrowly wide from the edge of the box following a clever flick by striking partner Hylton.

At the other end, Bradley Fewster volleyed well over from ten yards after Dave Winfield had won Luke Summerfield's deeply-struck corner.

But Winfield was lucky not to be punished on 13 minutes when he attempted to shepherd a ball out of play down the left channel, only for Hylton to steal possession.

He then made a hash of his simple square ball to give Bowery a tap-in, although the reprieve proved shortlived.

Two minutes later, Michael Ingham could only parry O'Dowda's low 15-yard drive back out to Bowery, who used his thigh to help the ball over the line.

Ingham beat out another O'Dowda effort after the home winger had skipped past Russell Penn.

After the break, impressive home defender Dunkley headed narrowly wide from Alex MacDonald's corner and Hylton also lifted over a 15-yard opportunity.

O'Dowda, meanwhile, found the side-netting with a deflected attempt and Bowery sliced off target after hesitancy by Winfield gifted him a sight of goal.

A rare break from the Minstermen saw Penn curl wide from 20 yards after Michael Coulson's square pass – but the U's 19-goal top scorer Roofe went on to head straight at Ingham from three yards following Jonjoe Kenny's right-wing cross.

It was another temporary let-off, with referee Oliver Langford mysteriously awarding a 72nd-minute corner after Bowery had headed over and Dunkley went on to head Roofe's left-wing delivery powerfully past Ingham.

Three minutes later, Hylton sidestepped Will Boyle's challenge as he cut in from the left flank and curled a fine finish into Ingham's far corner from 15 yards.

On 84 minutes, Roofe got in on the act when he prodded in from three yards after Ingham had beaten out Josh Ruffels' drive.
