YORK City top scorer Clayton Donaldson would relish taking another penalty for the club before leaving for Hibernian in the summer.

Donaldson extended his 100 per cent spot-kick record for the Minstermen to five attempts when he successfully converted at Southport to earn his team a vital 1-0 victory on Saturday.

The 23-year-old striker kept his cool impressively and has revealed that he would not be fazed if City are awarded another penalty in Saturday's home match with Oxford United or any play-off matches should the Minstermen get the point they require to secure a top-five place.

He said: "I'd definitely like to take another if I get the opportunity. Having scored five now, I'm getting more and more confident taking them.

"Against Southport, it was just a matter of having the belief in my ability and staying confident. I knew I couldn't get uptight because I would miss.

"Their players were trying to put me off, asking me what side I was going to put it in and telling me that I was going to miss but I just kept focussing.

"I normally feel a bit nervous but, funnily enough, I didn't at all and, as I went up to take it, the 'keeper dived early so that made my mind up and made things a lot easier.

"I always look at the keeper before I take them because they are normally taught to guess a corner and dive early. They have all gone the wrong way for my penalties this season except for the one against Morecambe who stood up and I just had to pick a corner and stick with it."

Donaldson is yet to miss a penalty in senior football but he believes an important failure from 12 yards as a schoolboy has strengthened his resolve from the spot.

"I missed one playing for my school in Bradford - Rhodesway Upper - during a Yorkshire Cup penalty shoot-out," he explained.

"It was an important match and very nerve-wracking but experiencing that has helped me. It was probably a better time to miss one than now."

With the possibility of play-off ties being settled by shoot-outs, as well as the final at Wembley, Donaldson also believes the Minstermen have enough spot-kick specialists should the occasion arise.

He said: "We've got other players willing to take them if it came to that. Steve Bowey and Mark Convery both fancy themselves and are waiting in the wings just as I was when Andy Bishop was taking them last season."
