A CALAMITOUS turn in the final round cost York’s Simon Dyson at least a top-ten finish in the Africa Open, writes Tony Kelly.
After rounds of 75, 66 and 69 put the Malton & Norton Golf Club star at nine-under-par at the East London course, Dyson then weighed in with four birdies in the first eight holes, including three on the spin, to go 13-under.
But the world number 148’s challenge unravelled. He double-bogeyed the ninth, dropped a shot on the 11th and suffered another double-bogey on the 12th.
Though birdies followed on 15 and 16, Dyson bogeyed the last for a 72 and a tie for 38th place, earning almost 7,000 euros.
However, Harrogate’s John Parry prospered to finish joint sixth with a 14-under total (68 69 69 68) to collect just shy of 40,000 euros after finishing ten adrift of runaway winner Trevor Fisher junior of South Africa.
