YORK Lokomotive ARLC are on the way up - possibly to the premier division of the Yorkshire Men's League.

Boss Simon Moat revealed before last night's all-important clash with Normanton Knights 'A' that the Lokos are likely to move up to group one after their super season in group two this year, with a chance they could be asked to jump straight into the county league's top tier.

This is regardless of last night's result and of whether the Lokos sealed their first-ever piece of silverware.

"The Rugby Football League will look into things over the winter," said Moat of a possible league restructuring, which supersedes promotion in the YML.

"But because of the way we have competed over the summer they will ask us to move up, at the RFL's discretion.

"They've already mentioned that if they run three divisions then they would ask us to move up group one, or possibly even the premier division."

Lokomotive's wonderful comeback draw at leaders Shaw Cross 'A' on Saturday - the Lokos drew 20-20 after trailing 20-6 with only a quarter of the game to go - meant they would finish joint-top with the Sharks with victory last night.

That would in turn give them their first trophy since forming in 2008 - as it has been confirmed the destination of the title in the case of a tie would go on head-to-head, rather than points difference.

Moat reckoned his side were champions even before last night's match. "We've deserved the title," he said.

"There have been five occasions where we've faced National Conference League 'A' teams when their first teams had not had a fixture, meaning they had strong sides out.

"We've played good opposition all season but only lost twice, which is tremendous.

"The players have acquitted themselves so well. We have more than achieved our goals."

York Acorn 'A' might go down a tier after finishing second bottom of the premier division, although the format of the 2015 league is to be decided.

York Acorn finish their season in the National Conference League first division on Saturday with a home game against relegation-threatened Eccles.

The Blue and Golds' losing run increased to six matches at Saddleworth Rangers last weekend, a result which boosted the Greenfield-based side's bid to escape the drop ahead of their trip to relegation rivals Milford Marlins.

The game at Thanet Road will also have a big bearing on the relegation picture, with Eccles sitting third-bottom.

Any two of Dewsbury Celtic, Eccles, Milford, who are all on 13 points, and Saddleworth, who have 15, could join basement boys Millom in demotion.
