SIMON DYSON’s 20-gun salute misfired as he crashed out of The Laguna National Championship tournament in Singapore.
The York-born golfer, who was faced with completing the last two holes of his first round, which were postponed after lightning, and then his full second round, could only muster a halfway total of 145, one-over-par.
With the projected cut at four under thanks to a flurry of sub-par rounds, headed by Thailand’s Panuphol Pittayarat who led the field at 13- under-par, Dyson was heading home.
His bid to make the business end of the event - the last in Asia before the European Tour returns to the Continent for the summer - was in double when he treble-bogeyed the last hole of his first round.
The world number 181, who revelled in a top eight finish in last week’s Volvo China Open, got his second round off to a flier with a birdie on the opening hole.
But another birdie on the seventh was wiped out by dropped shots at the sixth and ninth.
He got a shot back on the 12th but finished level par after dropping a shot on the 17th.
