HOPES of an instant dividend on returning to golf’s European Tour failed to materialise for York’s Simon Dyson.
Two weeks since his playing was curtailed by a back spasm in Spain, Dyson could only manage a one-over-par 73 in the opening round of the Maybank Malaysian Open.
The world number 181 dropped a shot on the second hole of the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, followed it with a birdie, but then had bogeys on the 13th and 17th holes which sandwiched only his second birdie on the par-four 16th.
Dyson’s 73 left him eight shots adrift of outright leader, Worksop’s Lee Westwood, going into today’s second round.
