YORK City's juniors will be looking to have Chester City on toast when the two sides meet in the second round of the FA Youth Cup tonight at KitKat Crescent.

The Minstermites will be full of beans when they take on the Blues (kick-off 7pm) thanks to an unusual pre-match routine which has helped them slice through the competition.

Before every tie, the players have sat down to a meal of beans on toast. And it will be the same today as they prepare for a match which, should they win, will see them entertain Premiership outfit Tottenham Hotspur in the next round.

Having beaten Leigh RMI on penalties in the last round, and after a late equaliser from Ashley Boyes secured a 1-1 home draw with high-flying Doncaster in the Youth Alliance League last weekend, City are in confident mood.

Eric Winstanley, head of youth, said the two Dannys - Stimpson and Phillips - had both shaken off injuries picked up in the Doncaster game to be fit for consideration.

He said City, who have also seen off Dunston Federation, Selby Town and Ryton in the competition, had no other injury worries. "They'll be having beans on toast again before the game," he said.

"They seem to have done well from that and we'll be keeping it going. We will have to work very hard. The lads are up for it and have been talking about the prospect of Tottenham all the time.

"That game is a good incentive. They should be excited and it should inspire them."

Chester beat Farsley Celtic 3-1 in the last round to force the game with City and Winstanley is urging fans to come to KitKat Crescent to support the team.

"The lads have done so well so far in the competition and it would be great if they could reach the next round and play Spurs at home," he said.

"I really hope City fans will come down to the ground and show their support. The cheers of encouragement will really help and boost their chances of success."

A victory would set City up nicely for their derby clash with Darlington in the Under-18 Football League Youth Alliance League on Saturday.

York City youth team squad: Jerome Chambers, Craig Beckett, Michael Walsh, Danny Stimpson, Josh Radcliffe, Andy McWilliams, Matt Johnson, Russell Spence, Joe Knowlson, Danny Phillips, Liam Shepherd, Alex Rhodes, Chas Wrigley, Sam Burns, Callum Brown, Michael Emmerson, Adam Boyes.

l YORK City Reserves held out for a deserved 2-1 win at Rotherham last night.

The visitors totally dominated the first 45 minutes and were rewarded with a blistering volley from Luke Foster and a neat finish from trialist striker Cayne Hanley to lead 2-0 at half-time.

However, Rotherham then upped their game and panicked City, who hung on for victory.
