NEW York City recruit Richard Cresswell – back where his career started – declared he has no intention of giving up playing.

Even though he is edging towards the twilight of his playing days and cutting his teeth as Sheffield United U21s assistant manager, Cresswell, pictured left, does not see his arrival at City as a final hurrah from the game.

“I’ve really enjoyed coaching but I don’t want to hang my boots up just yet,” he insisted.

The former million-pound attacker is also looking forward to picking up some coaching tips from City boss Nigel Worthington, a manager with international and Premier League pedigree.

Added Cresswell: “I’ve played for a lot of good managers and learned a lot of things.

“Nigel has great experience too, so it will be good to see things from a different angle.”

Having trained with his new team-mates this week, meanwhile, Cresswell feels there is little wrong with the players’ technical quality.

He said: “There are players with great ability but a bit of confidence is lacking because of the run that the club are on and we just need that win to crack on again.”

Perhaps surprisingly for somebody who had played in the top four divisions of the English game by the age of 22, Cresswell will also be making his first trip to Torquay as he prepares for his second City debut this weekend.

“I’ve not played there before so it’s another ground I can chalk off,” Cresswell revealed.

“They’ve been struggling as well so it will be a tough game.

“Hopefully, we can start brightly and get the result we are all determined to get.”
