ONE more tournament to play as York’s Simon Dyson launches one last bid to regain his place in the top 50 of the world’s leading golfers.
Dyson, whose 2012 has been blighted by two lengthy absences with pelvis and wrist injuries, takes his place in the DP World Tour Championship – the climax to the European Tour – in Dubai on Thursday.
The Malton & Norton Golf Club star lines up in the $8 million conclusion to the year now at 68th position in the world ratings, dropping three more places after last week’s Hong Kong Open in which he finished tied for 15th place.
Now only a healthy finish in the year’s finale on the Earth Course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates complex will realise a top 50 position, which he will need so as to gain automatic inclusion in all of next year’s four majors, including the Masters at Augusta.
Thursday’s event, for which there is no midway cut, brings to an end a European Tour of 44 tournaments played over 11 months across 24 countries and five Continents.
