TWO poachers caught near Selby have been fined by magistrates.
Daniel Dimmock, 24, and Ashley Marshall, 22, admitted hunting a mammal with dogs at York Magistrates’ Court.
North Yorkshire Police said the pair were caught by a gamekeeper near Mill Lane, Carlton, on land belonging to Carlton Towers estate, on Monday, October 13.
They had three dogs with them, which chased and killed a roe deer. Police said the gamekeeper chased Dimmock and Marshall for about 50 minutes before police arrived.
The pair, both from Castleford, said they were hunting for hares, and the deer had been killed accidentally.
Marshall was fined £15, ordered to pay court costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £20.
Dimmock, who has a previous conviction for poaching, was ordered to pay court costs of £250, a fine of £442 and a victim surcharge of £44.
