POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a moorland crash that left one man dead and three people injured.

A yellow Peugeot 106 travelling towards Pickering on the A169 left the road at the bottom of Saltersgate Bank, near the old Saltersgate Inn and crashed into a tree after 8pm yesterday evening.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, was killed. His identity has not yet been released.

The three passengers in the car were also injured and two received hospital treatment. None of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the collision or the vehicle on its journey from Whitby town centre to come forward.
