AN outbreak of a diarrhoea and vomiting bug at Scarborough hospital has resulted in the closure of two wards to visitors.

The Oak and Chestnut wards are currently off-limits to visitors. Two other bays which were closed were expected to reopen today.

Liz Booth, director of operations for Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “Visitors can call the hospital before visiting to find out if a particular area is closed. However, we would urge people not to visit if at all possible to help keep themselves safe as well as their friends or relatives.

“People who have been unwell should not visit the hospital until they have been free of symptoms for 48 hours.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all the local GPs and the ambulance service who have helped us manage the situation, their support has been fantastic. We would ask GPs to please continue to highlight any patient who has vomiting or diarrhoea prior to admission to hospital.”
