MICRO-businesses are fighting back against the Government, big business and the banks, according to a new campaign launched in North Yorkshire yesterday.

Enterprise Rockers, created by micro-business owners in Scarborough, is a nationwide campaign battling to get such organisations a better deal.

Tina Boden, who runs her own micro-business, importing olive oil from another micro-business in Spain, has founded Enterprise Rockers with Tony Robinson, an author who also runs his own business support companies, The Business Advisory Bureau and EntrepreneursUK.com

Tina also runs Only Me Here, a business support organisation for micro-businesses in Scarborough, and Tony, who received an OBE in 2001 for his services to small firms, has also advised Government in dealing with micro-businesses.

The pair hope to use the “power of plenty” to help micro-businesses trade together, help each other and influence public opinion.

Tina said that there was a focus on small to medium-sized businesses, many of which were substantial corporate businesses, while micro-businesses employing up to nine people had totally different needs.

She said: “We’re not a political, lobbying or a membership organisation.

“We believe that by thousands of us supporting each other and carrying the same messages in villages, towns and online all over the UK that we can harness the power of plenty to make life better and fairer for micro-business owners.”

Tony said: “We are really positive people, but I am annoyed that I was naïve enough to waste so much time in the last 20 years consulting with Government to try and get a better deal on skills and support for start-ups and micro-enterprise owners.

“The Rockers aren’t seeking Government money and we’ll never be as important to ministers as big business and the banks, but we do deserve a better deal and an even break.

“We provide most of the new jobs, innovation and best help to communities and we already contribute a third of all private-sector jobs and a fifth of UK turnover.”

The organisation has launched #MicroBizMatters on social media and already has 750 signatures on its “Tell Us What You’re Doing for Micro Enterprises Not for SMEs” e-petition to the Government, putting it at 14th out of more than 600 e-petitions to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
