TOP jockey Ian Brennan, who survived the devastating Ryedale fire which claimed the lives of two fellow jockeys, is moving to Australia.
His employer, Malton trainer John Quinn, says he thought the 22-year-old was pulling his leg when he told him he was leaving for a new life.
He said he looked at the calendar, thinking it was April 1. “I can’t really believe it and was taken aback.”
Brennan rode 36 winners last season and was regarded as a strong contender for this year’s champion apprentice title.
Apprentice jockeys Jan Wilson and Jamie Kyne were killed when fire broke out at an apartment in Norton, near Malton, in September 2000. Ian escaped the blaze by jumping through a window.
