KIRKBYMOORSIDE’S Fire Engine has been given a new look.

The appliance now features the details of local employers who release staff to be on-call firefighters along with images of some of the crew based at the station.

On-call firefighters are trained firefighters who, rather than being based at a fire station, provide on-call cover from home and/or their place of work.

The wrapping on the fire engine has been paid for by Marshall Advanced Composites who are one of the local employers in the town who release staff.

Temporary Station Manager Stuart Hopkin from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFR) said: “It’s great to be able to recognise the local employers, who allow their staff members to respond to incidents as on-call firefighters, in this way.

“A special mention must go to Marshall Advanced Composites who release three members of staff to be on-call firefighters and who have paid for the fire engine to be wrapped to encourage more local companies to support this important initiative.

“There are great benefits for employers in having staff members who are also on-call firefighters including the training and skills those staff members receive from the fire service on first aid and fire safety. If you’re a local employer who is approached by a member of staff who is thinking about applying to be an on-call firefighter please get in touch with us, especially if you have any questions or concerns about what it might mean for you.”

Marshall Advanced Composites General Manager Carl Morse said: “We are very proud of our relationship with the NYFR and, in particular, the work that our three on-call firefighters do in helping to save lives across the region.

“I hope that the graphics on the fire-engine will encourage more individuals and businesses to come forward to support what is an absolutely vital service to the local community.”
