A YORK attraction which was not able to open last year due to Covid-19 restrictions, is recruiting 100 seasonal staff to meet expected demand this year.

York Maze owner and farmer Tom Pearcy said he is confident they will open this summer and there are a range of jobs on offer from cafe workers to entertainers.

He said: “This time last year, with the country facing rising levels of Covid-19 infection, I made the difficult decision not to open York Maze.

"It was a gut-wrenching decision to have to make and I encouraged the staff who would normally work our summer season to find alternative jobs. Now a year later, while still not out of the woods, the signs for the summer are looking positive and I am confident York Maze will be able to open. We are starting the process now to recruit and train our amazing team of staff to deliver the excellent customer service York Maze is renowned for.

“We have around 100 vacancies to fill with a wide variety of roles on offer, from those who have worked in catering and hospitality, to people with acting experience to work in one of the shows. But the key requirement for a job at York Maze is a desire to make people happy. We are honoured to have twice won the ‘Outstanding Customer Service Award’ in the Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose awards and recognise that our visitors have trusted us with their precious family time together. We are here to give every single visitor an amazing day out and our staff are key to that.

“Whilst we don’t yet know exactly what Covid secure guidelines will be in place when we open in July, we will be prepared. With over 5km of pathways to explore, getting lost in our giant maize maze is a naturally socially distanced day out and we will be reviewing all our other attractions, rides, shows, catering outlets and retail points to ensure the safety of our visitors and staff. We will assess the government guidelines as details are announced but plan to put tickets on sale at the start of May.”

York Maze is set to open on Saturday, July 17 and will be open daily until Monday September 6. To apply for one of the summer seasonal jobs, visit the York Maze website and complete the online application form.
