A CONVENIENCE shop, which has been part of a village for more than 115 years has a new owner.

Central Stores, in Sherburn has been bought by London retailer Sinthusan Tharmaseelan.

The shop, which includes a three-bedroom house, was sold on a freehold basis off an asking price of £395,000 by specialist business property advisor, Christie and Co.

Sinthusan said: “We are thrilled to have acquired the business and look forward to relocating to the area.

“Many thanks to Christie and Co, and Andrew Birnie in particular, who went above and beyond to find us the perfect store and help us once the offer was accepted.”

Former owners, Julie and Amy Luke, added: “We have loved being part of the Sherburn community as both business owners and residents.

“Central Stores is the hub to the surrounding villages who have no supermarket for 11 miles. We are very grateful that Christie and Co were able to find the right buyer. We wish the new owners all the best in carrying on the business.”
