A COMMUNITY fridge is opening in Kirkbymoorside next week.

Kirkby Community Fridge, which will be located inside the town’s Methodist Church Hall in Piercy End, will be officially opened by Kirkbymoorside mayor Cllr Nick Holroyd on Wednesday, November 25, at 10am.

Charlotte Frost, from Kirkby Community Fridge, said: “When we talk about waste food, we mean the food that businesses are no longer able to sell but is still perfectly safe to eat.

“This food would normally go into landfill, but we now can freely re-distribute it to everyone in the local community who wants it.

“We are delighted that most of the local food businesses have pledged donations and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to them. We would also like to thank Kirkbymoorside Town Council who are helping to fund the project and special thanks also to the Methodist Church for giving the fridge a home.”

The fridge will be open to the public every Wednesday, from 10am to noon, or until the food runs out.
