MORRISONS in Malton has launched a “Pay it forward” café, in partnership with local initiative Community Smart CIC.

The café allows customers to pay for an extra drink or meal alongside their own purchase that can then be offered to an individual in need who visits the café.

Morrisons community champion Kathryn Dunn said: “I am incredibly proud of the scheme and it complements our work with the food banks and our doorstep delivery service brilliantly.”

Claire Robinson form Scarborough and Ryedale Carers Resource, which is supporting the project, said: “We are all excited about this being the start of something very special.

“Morrisons has been a fabulous ally, working with us to beat some of the Covid challenges.”

“The creation of a space to host a community café sparked the idea of the ‘pay-it-forward’ concept; we look forward to the coming weeks and supporting some of our service-users to have a cuppa, build their confidence and re-access a little bit of ‘normal’ life in a safe setting.”
