A BOWLS club has competed in the first trophy of the year.

Members of Thornton-le-Dale Bowls Club played each other for the Hudson Trophy 2020.

The competition consisted of mixed ability pairings playing against each other. Each pair played three games each, with the two final pairs competing for the trophy.

“Six pairs competed for the trophy on a dull cloudy day, but the sun appeared and summer returned as the final heat began,” said Steve Ronson, a member of the Thornton-le-Dale Bowls Club.

“There was some exhibition bowling going on in a few of the games but the outright leaders going into the final were Chris Turner and Chris Gibbons, with the second placed team being Rob Dean and David Muncey.

“The two competitors fought an inspiring battle of the woods, as the temperature soared and the sun beat down on the players.

“After 10 keenly fought ends, David Muncey and Robert Dean triumphed, winning by 16 against the Chris’s five.”

The Hudson Trophy was presented to the winners by Thornton-le-Dale Bowls Club chairperson, Joyce Helliwell.
