ALTHOUGH North Yorkshire has one of the lowest rates of burglaries, sneak-in burglaries can increase during the summer months.
According to the latest Crime Survey for England and Wales, offenders gained entry through an unlocked door 21 per cent of the time, by forcing the lock 19 per cent of cases; and 12 per cent by breaking a panel in the door.
About 83 per cent of people who had been burgled said they had been emotionally affected.
“Any burglary can be devastating for the victims, so we want to keep burglars at bay,” said Police Investigator Dave Pegg, from North Yorkshire Police.
