A CAMPAIGN has been launched to encourage smokers to quit.

Established by Action on Smoking and Health, the campaign, called Today is the Day, is protecting people from smoking-related diseases and increase of severe illnesses during coronavirus.

Smoking is the largest cause of preventable death in the East Riding, causing more than 600 deaths a year.

Although about 92,681 have quit smoking since lockdown, according to University College London.

“Smoking remains the biggest killer and we want to encourage all smokers to give quitting a try,” said Natalie Belt, from Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.
