RYEDALE residents are being reminded not to deal with cold callers offering household repairs.

The warning comes from North Yorkshire Trading Standards and North Yorkshire Police after increasing concerns about doorstep callers exploiting vulnerable people.

Scams include overcharging for work, damage to properties, failure to provide the necessary paperwork, failure to give residents 14 days to cancel the contract and vulnerable residents being driven to the bank by offenders to withdraw cash.

“Our message is clear - residents should not deal with doorstep callers,” said Cllr Andrew Lee, a member of the trading standards team.
