A NEW Hovingham business has proved so popular it had to restock after three days.

Abbie Walker, who is 19-year-old, decided to establish Hovingham Sweethouse during the coronavirus pandemic,

Originally from Middlesbrough, Abbie relocated to Hovingham a year ago to support the family business, Castle Carpets, based in Malton.

“Lockdown has been a difficult time for everyone,” said Abbie.

“After Castle Carpets closed for the foreseeable future, I had plenty of time to consider my next step.

“I’ve always wanted to manage my own business, so I looked for a gap in the market, bought my stock and went for it.

“I never expected the popularity so quickly, within the first day my inbox was flooded with requests.

“Every single item was sold out within three days – it’s both crazy and humbling how supportive the community is.”

The sweet-styled gift boxes range from a Kinder Bueno selection box, mixed chocolate sweet box, sweet cups and many more.

Priced from £3, Hovingham Sweethouse offers both collection and delivery options.

“I decided to offer delivery because lots of customers are key workers finishing a busy shift,” added Abbie.

“I enjoy seeing the happiness on customers faces; a little gesture to boost morale during a difficult time.

“My family has been incredible supportive, offering business advice and helping with photography.

“Something to pass the time during lockdown has turned into a great business venture - I’m excited for the future.”
