A HELMSLEY housing development has received generous donations from the community, during the coronavirus pandemic.

Bransdale View, which offers independent living alongside on-site care for anyone over 55, has received care packages from Ryedale businesses.

“I’ve been amazed by the support from the community,” said Andrea Brazil, housing and care manager at Bransdale View.

“Staff members have even volunteered on their days off because they know we are busy.

“We are focusing on keeping community spirit high and ensuring residents have things to do, supplying them with crosswords and games.”

Direct Imaging, from Malton, donated more than 300 toilet rolls after hearing residents could no longer leave their houses for basic necessities. Thomas The Baker, which has a branch in Helmsley, delivered freshly-baked bread, scones and cakes.

Anne Gordon-Hartley, a member of the Bransdale View team, loaned items of furniture and a television to a man who had nothing, alongside buying cleaning supplies for residents.

All members of staff have volunteered to walk residents’ dogs, arrange food deliveries and keep people company whilst family and friends are unable to visit. Bransdale View, which opened in 2018, has followed the Governments advice by restricting family visits, closing onsite amenities and ensuring everyone is safe.
