Ryedale District Council has suspended car parking charges in all its car parks.
Council leader Cllr Keane Duncan said:"Obviously with the current lockdown, our car parks are less in use than they normally would be, but they are still open and still necessary for local people.
"By cancelling charges we are doing our bit to support key workers such as the NHS)who use our car parks, and those who are volunteering to do shopping for family and neighbours.
"We're also trying to do everything we can to make it easier for people to use the local businesses that are still open - respecting proper social distancing of course.
"It's a small gesture, but every penny in people's pockets is important right now."
