THREE boys, from Pickering, are organising a sponsored 10km walk for Cancer Research UK.

Sam Norton, Wilson Moisey-Smith and Ronan Davis, all Year 6 pupils at Pickering Community Junior School, want to help other people by organising a charity event.

“Out of nowhere, the children said they wanted to help other people,” said Mark Norton, Sam’ s dad.

“They thought of a sponsored walk to raise donations, and asked if we could help them arrange it.

“The cause is obviously a great one, and something which affects many people, however people are also choosing to pledge money to show their support and encouragement to three lads for doing a kind and wonderful thing.”

The boys are completing the sponsored walk at Dalby Forest, on Saturday, March 7, alongside their family. The fundraising page has already raised more than £300.

Investing an average of £500 million per year, Cancer Research UK is the largest independent funder of cancer research.

In the 1970s, less than a quarter of people with cancer survived, but the survival rate has doubled.
