A HAIRDRESSING team has raised more than £238 in memory of a well-known Ryedale woman.

Jenny Rooke, who ran Beadlam Grange with her husband Mark, died in February 2019, aged 62, after a short battle with cancer.

Her family have since been fundraising for Saint Catherine’s, which cared for Jenny in her last few weeks of life. So far they have raised more than £15,000.

The Cutting Shed, recently established in Beadlam Grange Farm Shop, near Helmsley, raised donations for Saint Catherine’s through a raffle.

“I am incredibly proud of everyone at the salon for their fundraising and for being so supportive to Saint Catherine’s,” said Mark Rooke.

“Jenny will always be remembered for her warm welcome and beautiful smile, so full of life and always being there for everybody.”

Jenny was described by her family as having a love of life and a wonderful smile. After moving to Beadlam Grange in 1986, Mark said Jenny worked tirelessly to secure a future for generations to come and took great pleasure from the farming way of life.

Fundraising events have included an Easter egg hunt, Jenny’s brother, Philip Drewery, taking part in a 100-mile cycle ride, Angela Rooke organising the Beadlam Grange Christmas gift fair and Jenny’s daughter, Helen, organising a raffle in her shop.

Saint Catherine’s provided exceptional care and support for Jenny during a difficult time and the family now want to fundraise and give something back.
