A CAFE has been granted permission to build a new seating area on top of its kiosk.

The Sunrise Cafe in Quay Street, Scarborough, has been allowed to create the extension to its premises in the shadow of Scarborough Castle.

Following a consultation, Scarborough Council planning officers have granted permission under delegated powers after no objections were received.

The decision report notes: “It is intended that the existing roof [of the kiosk] would be removed to accommodate a flat roof measuring an overall height of 3.8 metres in order to form the proposed seating area and provide level access from the first floor level of the adjoining cafe building.

“The development also includes the removal of a window positioned within the side elevation of the cafe building adjacent to be replaced with double uPVC doors to provide access onto the seating area.”

The cafe kiosk building is located within the designated Scarborough Conservation Area which meant officers had to be convinced that the extension would not have an adverse impact on its surroundings.

They concluded that the changes would be “fairly unobtrusive” and granted permission.
