A WALKING group is preparing to climb Mount Toubkal, in Morocco, to raise donations for more than half a dozen charities in June.

The Yorkie Talkie Walking Group, with members from around Yorkshire, is climbing the mountain, which is approximately 4,167 metres (13,671ft) ascent and 40km, from June 8 to 13.

The walking group, including Stuart Jackson, from Slingsby, previously completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in 2019, raising more than £4,000.

Stuart has been part of the group for more than a year, enjoying the big climbs and challenge events.

After being a competitive mountain biker for many years, Stuart also enjoys walking in the mountains and taking in the views.

Emma Shipley, from the group, said: “Yorkie Talkies are a walking group, which cover many area’s in Yorkshire who enjoy the mountains and getting outside.”

The group is raising money for York Special Care Baby Unit, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, World Land Trust, Blue Cross, Upper Wharfdale Fell Rescue, Pancreatic Cancer, Alzheimer’s Society, SASH and Sue Ryder.
