A RYEDALE village has been selected to represent the whole of Yorkshire in the Britain in Bloom Final.
Thornton-le-Dale, which won gold in the Large Village category and Best New Entry in the Yorkshire in Bloom Competition last year, has been selected to represent the county in the Large Village Category in 2020.
The committee has decided to create a trail around the village, based on plants that attract pollinators, called Bee Friendly.
Residents can plant their own wildflowers with a selection of seeds.
“It is a great honour to be given the accolade of representing our county,” said Roger Sharples, chairman of Thornton-le-Dale Village Hub. “Last year was our first entry and, because of the support from volunteers, it has proved to be a great success for the village.”
Raising donations for the entry in August, the village hub is organising activities, including a spin-ride, coffee morning and a duck race.
“Any support from businesses in the Ryedale area and other regions of Yorkshire would be gratefully received,” added Denise Rajab, the village bloom coordinator.
“We hope that everybody in the village will join us in presenting Thornton le Dale in the best ‘blooming’ way.”
