New-look Wrelton Village Hall throws open its doors

Wrelton Village Hall, which has benefitted from renovations in recent months, is opening its facilities to the public on Saturday, January 25, from noon to 2pm.

The village hall is inviting residents to view the new refurbishments, and anyone interested in creating their own group, society or activities.

Kathy Waddington, one of the volunteers at Wrelton Village Hall, said: “The village hall has benefitted from some updating, such as decorating, new chairs and refurbished porch and car park.

“It is now an excellent facility already well used by the community for clubs, societies and private functions during the day and evening.”

Village Halls Week is a national celebration of village halls, their volunteers and the services they offer their communities, which runs from January 20 to 26, organised by ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England).

“The committee wants to develop the use of the hall by other clubs, societies and events, particularly those that provide an opportunity for villagers and other residents,” said Kathy. “Anyone looking for a venue for a club or class is encouraged to come along on the 25th to view our facilities and hiring terms.”

The open day will include representatives from different groups such as a toddler group, woodcarvers and coffee and chat.

There will also be refreshments, including tea, coffee and homemade soup. The village hall committee organises community events through the year, including the annual harvest festival, a Christmas get-together for villagers and their friends and future plans to develop a book group and film screenings during 2020.

The village hall offers a selection of musical and theatre productions across February and March.

The upcoming productions include The Vintage Vocalist on February 22 and an evening with actor Dom Goodwin called a Night At The Panto on March 17.
