A DOG charity is organising a Christmas morning surprise for rescue dogs in Ryedale.

Ryedale Dog Rescue is appealing for different items, such as fleece blankets, toys and treats, for their shoe box appeal.

Rebecca Saltmer, a volunteer for the Ryedale Dog Rescue, said: “Kind people are filling shoeboxes with different doggie treats to give our rescue dogs a treat for Christmas morning. We can even supply the shoebox if needed and collect when the boxes are filled.”

Ryedale Dog Rescue became a registered charity in 2007 and raises donations through fun dog shows, tombolas, car boot sales, raffles, bingo nights and coffee mornings.

It is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time to rehoming about 80 dogs per year.
