RETAIL food magazine The Grocer has singled out a twist on roast potatoes from an East Yorkshire firm as one of the best new products of 2019.

Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm came top in The Grocer New Product Awards 2019 in the Frozen Meals and Accompaniments category, for its New Garlic and Rosemary Roasting Potatoes.

Judges, which included food industry experts and members of the public, praised the product’s Yorkshire provenance, as well as the “delicious but not overpowering” flavour.

They called the product an “exciting new idea” and declared the potatoes – which are roasted in their skins and tumbled in locally-produced Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil together with garlic and rosemary – “a good trade-up on standard roasties”.

The win was announced by The One Show presenter Angellica Bell at an event at the Marriott Grosvenor Square, London.

Zoe Bannister, one of the family company’s directors, said: “We’re thrilled.

“We have had wonderful feedback from customers for our new roasties, so it is doubly exciting to be chosen to win one of the most coveted awards in the industry.

“It’s especially encouraging to see the judges pick up on many of

the things on which we pride ourselves, particularly the provenance of our products, our focus on innovation, and our ambition to create interesting new variations on wholesome, traditional favourites. We couldn’t be more pleased.”

This is the latest in a string of awards for Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm, which recently won the Best of Health Awards, run by the Healthy Food Guide, for its Six Little Jacket Potatoes.

The company has also been named highly-commended in the freezer category of The Veggie Awards, run by Veggie magazine, for its Four Baked Jacket Potatoes, and was shortlisted for a Free From Food Award for its Farmer’s Roasting Potatoes, in the Store Cupboard category.

The business has also reached the finals of Great British Food Awards, with two products, its Garlic and Rosemary Roasting Potatoes and its Cheese and Jalapeño Potato Skins.

Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm is owned and run by the Bannister family, who have farmed on the Yorkshire Wolds for generations.
